The textile artist Ingrid Dessau is one of Sweden's foremost designers. She has been awarded several awards and is behind the Nobel cloth and the Nobel napkins.
Genuine Scanian with its roots in the Swedish coat of arms. After training at the Technical School in Stockholm, and debut exhibition in 1953, Ingrid Dessau has been a designer at Kasthall's carpet factory and later at Kinnasand. She mainly worked with carpets and textile interiors. Among the clients were banks, the embassy and museums.
Over the years, Ingrid has created classic pattern images and decors for textiles, handwoven and hand tufted carpets. She has been awarded several awards and, in addition to all her assignments in Sweden, she has also been extensively employed by international companies. The Nobel cloth and the Nobel napkins are one of a series of high-profile assignments for Ingrid Dessau. Here she started from a small classic square in a cloth woven at Dylta mill and developed it. The design work resulted in tradition-based tablecloths and napkins for our environment and our modernly set tables. The presentation took place at the Nobel Jubilee banquet in 1991 and for the appreciation then, and the development thereafter, there is only one word - success! Material selection and design highlight the Nobel tablecloth and napkins to a brilliant table setting set of very high quality. The tablecloth and napkins are almost a given on all occasions when the festive is to be expressed. The high quality means that tablecloths and napkins can also withstand everyday use - completely in line with the commission's intentions that the functional qualities of the Nobel service should provide simplicity and broad usability.
