Linen, an environmentally friendly and sustainable choice

Linen has long been part of our history and our future. Since the Stone Age, this natural, hard-wearing and durable material has been a faithful companion in man's textile heritage. We at Klässbols Linneväveri are proud to have managed this ancient tradition for over a century, weaving linen with the same dedication and precision as our ancestors.

That flax is one of our oldest textile fibers is not just a history lesson, it is living proof of the material's timeless quality. Linen weaving is not only part of our history, it is part of us. Every thread we weave carries with it a promise of less environmental impact, a concern that permeates our work and our products. Our linen not only stands for durability in the material itself, but also for a legacy of craftsmanship and care for our planet.

When you choose our linen products, you become part of this time-honored tradition. You are not just choosing an environmentally smart option, you are choosing a piece of living history and craftsmanship. Our passion for linen weaving has lasted for over 100 years, and thanks to you we can continue to carry on this proud tradition.

Where does our linen yarn come from?

The linen yarn from which we weave our linen products today comes from chipped linen grown in France and Belgium. Everything is grown according to the rules for sustainable organic farming. The flax is also prepared there, which means that the chipped flax is refined into spinnable fibers which then become rye yarn at various spinning mills around the world. The yarn is also dyed at the spinning mills.

We buy our GOTS eco-labeled linen yarn ( Global Organic Textile Standard ) from Italian Linificio and French Safilin . These companies are fully environmentally certified and carefully controlled in European supply chains. Why do we buy the linen yarn from these countries you may wonder? It is mainly because unfortunately it cannot be bought in Sweden. But also because these linen suppliers can deliver the colors and volumes we desire, they have the right environmental policy and that they have a certain amount of CSR work ( Safilin ) that we appreciate.
The colors with which the linen yarn is dyed are also GOTS eco-labelled. This means, among other things, that no dangerous chemicals are used. You can read more about GOTS at vevdenkonsumtion.se .

Some of our semi-linen products are woven in 50% linen and 50% cotton. The cotton yarn comes from German Otto Garne , which is also certified with Fair Trade, GOTS and more.

In this fascinating video, Safilin , one of our valued linen yarn suppliers, gives an exclusive insight into how their fine linen yarn is produced. We are proud to partner with dedicated artisans like Safilin, whose painstaking process not only ensures the highest quality but also reflects our shared commitment to sustainability and traditional craftsmanship. Join us on a journey that shows the entire process from the cultivation of the flax to the finished yarn - a process that we find deeply fascinating and which lies at the heart of our quality products.

OUR sewing thread

We use Gütermann polyester thread that is Oeko-Tex certified , which means it is gentle on animals, nature and free from toxins. The thread, which is extremely durable, requires much less water and energy consumption in production than the corresponding production of cotton, e.g. Thanks to the manufacturer's MCT technology, the fiber release is extremely minimal as they work with infinite fibers unlike in a traditional Corespun technology.
