Heaven and Hell by Wanja Djanaieff
The Himmel och Helvete product series was developed by prominent textile designer Wanja Djanaieff in collaboration with Svensk Slöjd and was presented by Vanja herself as follows: To freely interpret life according to folk art in the form of strong symbols such as Adam and Eve, unicorns, birds, angels, devils, etc. on damask, is like bringing together two cultural heritages into one.
"Heaven and Hell" is thus a damask story in a modern style that affirms our roots".
Wanja Djanaief worked at Almedahls in 1960-70 and created, for example, Swan, one of the earliest naïve patterns. She has also recently been Head of NK Design Group, formerly NK's Textile Chamber, 1970-77; designed the pattern Kaffebord in 1972. Designed clothes for the participants in the 1974 Olympics. Manager of the textile factory Strömma in Norrköping 1977-80 where the first collection, I folkviseton, meant a new start for the company. Co-owner of the Swedish Design Agency 1977-80 together with Kerstin Boulogner, Aino Östergren and Boel Matzner. Project manager and teacher at Konstfack 1980-88; professor 1988-92. Made scenography and costumes for productions by Peter Oskarsson in Järvsö and costumes for Folkteatern in Gothenburg as well as exhibitions, e.g. Textil omtanke.
